HMD Global's new Nokia 105 feature phone costs just Rs 999

fter launching the revamped 2017 version of the nostalgic Nokia 3310 - for Rs 3,310 -- Finland-based HMD Global launched a couple of more feature phones - the Nokia 105 and the Nokia 130 -- in the Indian market on Monday. Unlike the Nokia 3310 (2017) the new batch of Nokia-branded feature phones are what you can call, more reasonably priced. The Nokia 105 starts at Rs 999 for the single-SIM variant and goes all the way to Rs 1,149 for the dual-SIM variant. It will be available for buying from July 19 at retail stores across the country. The Nokia 130, although it doesn't have pricing or availability specifics out yet, is expected to be priced a little higher than what the Nokia 105 has been priced at, but, in all probability it should cost less than the Nokia 3310 (2017).

If you thought, launching features phones in 2017 is so yesteryear, well, at least HMD Global doesn't think so. "With more than 1.3 billion feature phone users around the world, many from markets in Asia and Africa, the reliability and excellent value that both the Nokia 105 and Nokia 130 offer is set to ensure yet more people around the world can get connected," HMD Global said in a press statement.

As always, the emphasis - these being Nokia-branded phones - is on "quality, reliability, and robust design you would expect from a Nokia phone."

Both the Nokia 105 and the Nokia 130 boast of a full plastic body and removable backs (and removable batteries) and will be available in a slew of fancy colours. While the Nokia 105 will be available in blue, white and black, the Nokia 130 will be available in red, grey and black colours. Both the feature phones come with a 1.8-inch QQVGA colour display and run Nokia Series 30+ software.

"With more than 4 billion people remaining offline and unable to benefit from the social and economic development opportunities of the internet, simply getting connected by voice and text is still such an important step for many people around the world," Arto Nummela, CEO, HMD Global said. "More than 400 million feature phones were sold globally in 2016. We cannot underestimate the need and benefit of being connected and we are dedicated to delivering devices that can enable many people around the world to expand their horizon."

While the Nokia 105 claims to offer up to 15 hours talk time, the Nokia 130 is claimed to offer up to 44 hours of FM radio music playback with a headset or up to a month on standby from a single charge, according to the company. While the Nokia 105 comes with 4MB storage, the Nokia 130 comes with 8GB storage which is expandable by up to 32GB via micro-SD card.
