Moto Z2 Force may not come to India but it should. It will make Moto lineup complete

The Moto Z2 Force looks like a cross between last year's Moto Z Play and Moto Z. It marries the ultra-slim design of the Moto Z with the shatter-proof screen of the Moto Z Force. The slim smartphone is made entirely of glass and metal and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4/6GB of RAM and a 2,730mAh battery.
With the previous generation Moto Z Force, it was very cut and dry that it was a US exclusive smartphone because Motorola had launched another flagship alongside it for the global market in the form of the Moto Z. This time though it is unclear whether Motorola will launch a Moto Z2. In 2017, the company has only unveiled a mid-range Moto Z2 Play and a flagship Moto Z2 Force.
The Moto Z2 Force has been launched in two variants - a US only model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and a variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for other regions.
The Moto Z2 Force is set to go on sale in Mexico, Brazil, Europe, Middle East and Africa from later this summer according to Motorola. This suggests that it not exclusive to US and might get an Indian release sometime in the future. However, there is no mention of any Asian countries as of now.
Motorola on Thursday launched their offline exclusive MotoHub retail stores across India. At the opening of the first store in Noida, I had the opportunity to catch up with Mr Sudhin Mathur - Managing Director, Motorola Mobility India.
What goes against the launch of the Moto Z2 Force in India is the fact that the Moto X Force was not well received in the country sales wise.
When I asked him about Motorola's plans to bring the Moto Z2 Force to India, he said - "Z2 Force is right now launched only for the US markets - it's a US product for the US carriers out there. At this point of time, we have the Moto Z2 Play which is available for customers in India".
It might be the case that Motorola launches the Moto Z2 Force in India eventually but for now at least the Moto Z2 Play is Motorola's high-end phone for India. The distinguishing feature of the Moto Z2 Force is the display. It comes with a 5.5-inch Quad HD 'ShatterShield' display. The screen is shatter proof - which means it will not shatter or crack from every day falls. This technology was first seen in the Moto X Force.
What goes against the launch of the Moto Z2 Force in India is the fact that the Moto X Force was not well received in the country sales wise. The smartphone kept bouncing around fire sales across e-commerce platforms for quite a long time to clear inventory. In fact, the smartphone which was launched for Rs 49,999, was selling for as low as Rs 12,999 recently on Flipkart.
It also seems that Motorola has shifted its concentration towards the budget and mid-range category as of late with a slew of launches such as the Moto C Plus, Moto C, Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus. In fact, the company has launched 6 smartphones in the under Rs 15,000 category in India in the last 6 months alone.
When it comes to Moto Mods also, it does not seem that the demand is there. As of writing, except for the JBL SoundBoost, none of the other Moto Mods are in stock either on Amazon or Flipkart. This strongly suggests that the company is concentrating towards the budget and mid-range segment of the market.
It will be a sad day if Motorola India decides to concentrate only on the budget and upper-midrange end of the market
The most expensive current generation smartphone on sale in India is the Moto Z2 Play which received a very favourable -- it's a great phone -- review from India Today Tech and retails for Rs 27,999. We called it the best phone Lenovo owned Motorola has made so far. The Z series is a great example of modular smartphones done right and is Lenovo owned Motorola's strongest showing as of late.
The Moto Z2 Force also comes with a dual camera setup at the rear - a primary 12MP RGB (color) sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 paired with a secondary 12MP monochrome (black and white) sensor also with an aperture of f/2.0. The two sensors work together to create high-quality images and  also allow you take pictures in black and white as well as with depth of field effects.
Using the Moto Z2 Play for the last few weeks has made me realise the gains Motorola has made when it comes to imaging - the X series were known for having average smartphones. The camera on the Z2 Play on the other hand is comparable to smartphones in its class. In fact, it has even surprised me at times in low-light scenarios. This makes me excited for the dual camera capabilities of the Moto Z2 Force.
The Moto Z2 Play is a great smartphone and makes me really wish Motorola brings the Moto Z2 Force to India. It will be a sad day if Moto India decides to concentrate only on the budget and upper-midrange end of the market.
